The thoughts and prayers of the Diocese of Tennessee are with the people of Murfreesboro and of Rutherford County in the wake of the tornado that struck the area on Good Friday. We mourn the loss of life and the devastation of property caused by this disaster.
Reports from clergy and lay leaders in our parishes in the area indicate that four households from St. Paul’s Church had homes destroyed by the storm, and one household from Church of the Holy Cross had a home seriously damaged. There has been no loss of life among our parishioners. Church buildings sustained no damage.
Churches and households in the Diocese of Tennessee have experienced tornado damage in the past, and few of our congregations have been unaffected over the years. These experiences make us particularly sensitive to the suffering caused in Middle Tennessee by these storms. Please continue to remember these congregations and their members in your prayers, as well as all the people of the area profoundly affected by this disaster.
- The Rt Rev’d John Bauerschmidt, Bishop of Tennessee
